Building Organizational Strength Through Partnership
Return HomeOur Story and Approach
Velkro was established in January 2011 by three consultants who had spent the previous decade working within larger advisory firms across Asia-Pacific. We formed this independent practice with the intention of offering mid-size organizations the same rigorous methodology they would receive from larger consultancies, but with greater flexibility and more direct partner involvement.
Our founding principle remains unchanged: organizations benefit most when external advisors work collaboratively with internal teams rather than imposing predetermined frameworks. We bring structure, analysis, and outside perspective, while respecting that the people operating within your organization hold essential knowledge about its dynamics and potential.
Over the past fifteen years, we have worked with more than eighty organizations across Hong Kong, Singapore, and the broader region. Our client base includes professional services firms, family-held enterprises navigating generational transitions, and established companies pursuing strategic repositioning. What these engagements share is a commitment to thoughtful diagnosis before recommendation, and an emphasis on sustainable implementation over superficial fixes.
We maintain a deliberate practice size. Our consulting team consists of six senior professionals, each bringing fifteen to twenty-five years of experience in strategy, operations, or organizational development. This structure allows us to keep engagement quality high while maintaining direct partner involvement throughout each project. We do not take on more work than we can serve well.
Our office is located in Admiralty, placing us within reach of clients across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. We work primarily in English and Cantonese, with Mandarin capability available as needed. Our team understands the regulatory environment, cultural expectations, and competitive dynamics specific to operating in this region.

Our Professional Standards
We maintain rigorous protocols across all engagements to protect client interests and ensure quality outcomes.
Confidentiality Protocols
All client information is protected under signed non-disclosure agreements. Documentation access is restricted to engagement team members only. We maintain secure data storage and do not reference client work publicly without written consent.
Professional Certifications
Our partners hold credentials from recognized professional bodies including the Institute of Management Consultants, Hong Kong Management Association, and relevant industry-specific certifications. We pursue continuing education annually.
Conflict Management
We conduct thorough conflict checks before accepting new engagements. If serving competing organizations would compromise our objectivity or your confidentiality, we decline the engagement. Existing client relationships take priority.
Quality Assurance
Every deliverable undergoes partner review before client presentation. We use structured methodologies adapted from established consulting frameworks, ensuring consistency while allowing customization to your specific context.
Engagement Documentation
We formalize scope, timeline, and deliverables in a written letter of agreement before beginning work. Changes to scope are documented through amendment letters. This clarity protects both parties and sets realistic expectations.
Collaborative Methodology
Our engagements are designed around regular touchpoints with client stakeholders. We share draft findings for review and incorporate feedback before finalizing recommendations. This collaborative approach produces more relevant and implementable outcomes.
Our Values and Expertise
Integrity forms the foundation of our practice. When we accept an engagement, clients can expect honest assessment even when findings are uncomfortable. We believe organizations benefit more from candid dialogue than from consultants who simply affirm existing perspectives. This commitment to truthfulness extends to our scoping process: if we believe a different service provider or approach would better serve your needs, we will say so.
We approach each organization with genuine curiosity about its unique context. While we draw on proven frameworks and methodologies, we resist the temptation to apply cookie-cutter solutions. Two companies operating in the same industry with similar challenges may require different interventions based on their leadership dynamics, organizational culture, or market positioning. Our role is to understand these nuances and adapt our recommendations accordingly.
Respect for client time shapes how we structure engagements. We recognize that participating in a consulting engagement represents an investment of attention and energy beyond the financial commitment. Our interview protocols are efficient, our meetings have clear agendas, and our documentation is concise. We deliver findings when promised and communicate proactively if timelines need adjustment.
Our expertise spans strategic planning, operational improvement, and organizational development. Within these domains, we have developed particular depth in areas including market entry strategy, process redesign, governance frameworks, succession planning, and change management. We also maintain relationships with specialists in areas such as technology implementation, legal compliance, and financial restructuring, allowing us to coordinate comprehensive support when needed.
The consulting relationship works best when built on mutual respect and clear communication. We welcome questions about our methodology, direct feedback on our work product, and honest dialogue when perspectives differ. Organizations that choose to work with Velkro typically value substantive engagement over superficial deliverables, and appreciate consultants who act as thought partners rather than distant experts.
